RAE 2026 LCQ Preview: EU, MENA, SAM

Who will qualify for RLCS' return to Dickies Arena?

Published:

The RLCS RAE (Region-Adjusted Elo) Rating system is a predictive model for professional Rocket League, using updating team ratings to generate probabilities for matches, teams, and tournaments. You can read more about it here.

After concluding the year's circuit and taking a break to appreciate the other gamemodes that the game has to offer, competitive 3v3 RLCS returns this weekend with the final four spots at the World Championship — one each for NA, EU, SAM, and MENA — being decided through the Last Chance Qualifiers that will take place over the next three weeks.

Paris Major & RAE Season Recap

Though the event had its fair share of stunners, the Paris Major was, by-and-large, an event that followed the script from match to match. With one American-shaped exception, the Top 6 consisted of most peoples' Top 6 teams in the world (Gentle Mates, Vitality, Karmine, Twisted, and Shopify being the expected representatives), and there was really only one upset per round of play.

The main culprits of the model's misses were, as you might expect, NRG (for underperforming), Karmine (for overperforming), Mates (underperforming), and Twisted (for doing a bit of both).

The predictability of the Major ended up giving RAE its highest prediction accuracy at a LAN since the start of RLCS 2024: 78%, a figure that actually exceeds its overall accuracy for this season.

With the regular season concluded, here is how well RAE predicted in each region this season, as well as its performance in each split:

  • All Matches: 77% [77% | 78%]
  • Regionals: 78% [78% | 78%]
  • LAN (incl. Kickoff): 76% [75% | 78%]
  • NA: 78% [77% | 80%]
  • EU: 76% [78% | 74%]
  • SAM: 79% [79% | 79%]
  • MENA: 79% [81% | 77%]
  • OCE: 80% [78% | 81%]
  • APAC: 76% [80% | 73%]
  • SSA: 79% [75% | 82%]

Comparing to last season, SAM, MENA, and APAC all became much more difficult to predict, particularly in the second split. The model improved significantly in a more stable SSA (thanks to the 2⁄3 rule) while holding steady in NA, EU, and OCE.

Regions with more roster volatility (OCE, MENA, APAC) were generally harder for the model to gauge, particularly in the second split. Regions with fewer roster moves between events (NA, SAM) saw improvement between splits to an extent.

Here’s a preview of what lies in store in the final online events of RLCS 2026.

After a chaotic second split for EU's second class, newly formed Geekay Esports and Kaydop Corp rosters join Novo Esports at the forefront of the race for EU's sixth and final spot at the World Championship.

Talented Mate y Tapa and Magnolia rosters, followed by Volare, Triple pop, and Team BSK, comprise the rest of RAE's eight best teams of the event.

PCS Stride and an ancient The Bricks team make up what is essentially all of the quality depth in the LCQ following the eliminations of GHT and Gates of Olympus in the Swiss Stage; the remaining six teams are all hovering at or around bubble level.

Can Geekay really be trusted?

If, like me, you found yourself watching this Geekay roster struggle through the Swiss Stage on Sunday, you might (rightfully) question RAE's designation of the team as the best the EU LCQ has to offer.

The model's insistence on the team's quality is in part due to the fact that it doesn't track Swiss results on anything more than a pass/fail basis, as Swiss performances are often poor indicators of a team's actual skill. Most RLCS pundits treat team power rankings the same way; it's only a tougher pill to swallow in this case because this is the first time that this iteraiton of the Geekay roster has taken the pitch.

While the organization's squad in Split 2 struggled mightily, the majority of the team's rating comes from two-thirds of the Split 2 Kaydop Corp roster that defeated Vitality and came within two points of a tiebreaker for the final Paris Major spot. All else being equal, GK have both the talent and just enough consistency to be the slightest of favorites. We'll see what the rest of the region has to say by July's end.

Who's going to be this year's BDS?

Back in 2025, Team BDS (then consisting of Nico, GiuK, and mtzr) turned heads with their stunning run to the EU LCQ finals, including a 4-0 sweep over eventual winners NiP and another sweep over upstarts 2 Danes 1 Bruv.

BDS fit a very specific profile: a roster that had plenty of hype going into the season, but failed to make good on any of it until they finally got their chance with a lighter bracket in the GSL Stage and lived up to their potential.

One team stands out as fitting that billing, albeit in a different sense. Magnolia's duo of rise. and yujin, off the back of seasons where they collected LAN Top 8 performances, each struggled mightily in RLCS 2026: rise. on a floundering Gen.G squad, and yujin on talented but inconsistent GentleBench and Magnifico teams. With a fresh look and a winnable match against Mate y Tapa between them and a spot in the upper bracket, the stage is set for them if they're able to take a step back into the spotlight.

One stat that works in their favor: every player to leave the Gen.G organization (noly, ApparentlyJack, Chronic, Firstkiller, CHEESE., Retals, and jstn.) made at least one more LAN after doing so. For all besides CHEESE. and Retals, they made the next RLCS LAN immediately following their departure. Bodes well for rise., at the very least.

The odds paint a picture of a clear three-way race between Geekay, KDC, and NOVO, with Mate y Tapa and Magnolia, then Volare and Triple pop far behind them.

Tough bracket luck knocks down the odds of both BSK and The Bricks, while a very favorable quadrant will see one of x, TTTinhos, No Balls Just Chase, and 123-1 make it through to the upper bracket on Saturday.

Conversely, NOVO has a particularly friendly path to the upper bracket, boosting their odds above Kaydop Corp and near Geekay, who are on course to play each other for a spot in the upper bracket of the GSL Stage thanks to the latter's poor Swiss performance.

Unsurprisingly, R8 Esports tops the power rankings for the MENA LCQ after surpassing Team Falcons regionally in Split 2. The team holds an over 100-rating advantage over second-place DOS, who themselves sit ahead of Team Stallions in third and NMT in fourth.

Qlean, Kaprosuchus, and seirin are the only other rosters whose players have all shown consistent main event quality this season; after Black Council, No Mercy, robert de nero, and hws, the remaining five teams are scraping the bottom of the MENA talent barrel.

How are DOS above Stallions?

When explaining individual rankings like this, I usually find myself explaining why the model disagrees from a general consensus that I subscribe to. In this case, this ranking is 100% defensible.

While Stallions entered the public conscience with a semifinal victory over Twisted Minds in Open 4, DOS swept the Paris finalists in the GSL stage in Open 6, with both results providing equal boons for the victors. Combine that with DOS' superior performance in Open 5 (which included a head-to-head sweep), and you get RAE placing the team a spot higher in the regional rankings.

Both DOS and Stallions present a similar outlook as teams with high ceilings and the occassional shock loss, and it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see them take down R8 if the favorites have an off day. Compared to a roster like NMT, though, that inconsistency is just as likely to see them exit early or create a lopsided bracket. As we saw in 2025, though, the LCQ doesn't reward consistency — all you need is three series on Sunday to make it to the LAN stage.

Will R8 be toppled?

Based on how the 2025 LCQs went, you can classify the outlook of each event this year as similar to one of the four from last year.

2026 EU is a 2025 MENA. All other regions fall under the 2025 NA designation: one clear favorite with a handful of other teams trying to enter the conversation.

We all know how that went for Complexity last year. In the case of R8, their odds of winning the event (59%) are frighteningly close to what COL's were (58%). The good news for the team is that they enter the LCQ off of a remarkably consistent online Split 2.

Here's all the teams that R8 lost to in Split 2 regionals: Twisted Minds. That's it.

Combine that with their 2-0 record against Falcons, 2-0 record against Stallions, 2-0 record against DOS, and 2-0 record against Rafha Esports (now NMT), they showed very little of the inconsistency of the downtrending Complexity squad of yesteryear. This team has the profile of a bona fide regional top dog; as long as they don't get caught out, they should be the ones advancing to Fort Worth.

  502-511-911  <1%  <1%  <1%  1.1%  4.6%  43.7%

R8 are the odds-on favorites for the Worlds spot, with DOS and Stallions the most likely to take them down.

NMT have a reasonable shot at the title, and Qlean's odds are at least within the realm of possibility, but the sheer quality of R8 makes it difficult for anyone behind them to challenge for a win.

A balanced GSL Stage means that team quality will be the deciding factor, rather than bracket luck; as always, though, a single upset can tilt the scales one way or the other for an underdog looking to make a run.

As to be expected, BS+COMPETITION are the favorites for the LCQ after their Open 6 victory, with a comfortably margin over next-best Plot Twist and Bigodes. After Team Secret's' (BANANA for Open 6) falloff towards the end of the season, most of the formerly LAN-quality talent in SAM dispersed, leaving BS+ without one particularly strong competitor.

NuTorious sit alone in 4th, while strong Novadrift, Disasterclass, and FOFUCHOS teams complete the list of consistent main event squads competing in the LCQ.

twitter and Sangres both have at least one main event mainstay on their rosters, while, like last season, the remaining teams are filled with bubble- and sub-bubble-level talent.

A postmortem of SAM's second tier

For the 2025 LCQ, there were six teams in South America with an RAE rating of 1450 or greater, and 13 with a rating of 1100 or greater. In 2026, only 3 and 9 teams fit the those billings, respectively.

Though SAM has historically been a highly top-heavy region, there has also been a high level of competition just below the top ever since FURIA's initial move to North America in 2022. In 2025, eight unique teams made a Top 4 (excluding roster moves between Split 1 and Split 2). In 2026, that number was just five, with Team Secret's' fall from LAN contender to semifinal regular exacerbating to the point that the roster was dropped by the organization and missed the playoffs altogether in Open 6.

What's left of SAM's A-tier teams is solely BS+. Bigodes (who usurped Secret in the final two regionals) and Plot Twist (with an influx of talent from North America) are the only other teams with a bona fide claim to being competitive in this event, while traditional Top 8 floaters NuTorious have moved into fourth by default.

Disasterclass — with two-thirds of the MIBR roster that competed at Worlds in 2025, mind you — can barely be considered a Top 8 side in the region. And while FURIA only losing one series all season to a team outside of the top three (Secret in Open 2) is par for the course, the level of dominance over the field that MIBR (17-0) and BS+ (20-1) have been allowed to have signifies that the region's talent pool is drying up, fast.

Combined with continued lackluster performances on LAN (FURIA bowing out Top 8 being one of their better ones), South America is quickly falling out of prominence. As long as the region's young talent (who are still older than most) continue to stagnate while its veterans fall out of relevance*, the region will remain right a far cry from the title contender it used to be.

At this rate, it's hard to say if SAM has much future upside, and that's not even considering the increasing dominance of EU over the rest of the world this season. I wouldn't be too surprised to see NA and SAM merge by the time another round of major format revisions takes place.

*While the average age of SAM players isn't much different from in NA or EU, both of these regions have done more to upcycle top talent onto LAN-qualifying rosters, while SAM wunderkinds are often left to play on mid-tier rosters for years if they even get a chance on a top team at all. crn and wisty, for instance, both had to grind their way to the top on BS+, and even then got a bit of help from kv1, who was dumped by Secret before Split 2. If crn makes it to Worlds, he will be 20 qualifying for his first RLCS LAN — comparatively, stizzy was able to get the call up to a LAN-caliber roster when he was just 17, and qualified for his first RLCS LAN at 18.

Very similarly to MENA, SAM's LCQ sees one team — BS+ — as majority favorites to take the region's final Worlds spot. Bigodes and Plot Twist (the latter of which have been stuck with a poor bracket) each have decent odds, with NuTorious, FOFUCHOS, Disasterclass, and Novadrift the possible longshots.

A separate article for North America's Last Chance Qualifier can be read here.

To summarize, here's who RAE thinks qualifies for the World Championship out of each region:

  • EU: Geekay Esports
  • MENA: R8 Esports
  • SAM: BS+COMPETITION

As to be expected, the yearlong No. 3s who challenged their regions' No. 2s are the favorites in MENA and SAM; it will be a tall task for anyone to take down either R8 or BS+, though as we learned in 2025 with Complexity, you can't take the LCQ for granted. Geekay check in as tentative favorites for an EU spot that will likely be determined by the form of several teams on the final online Championship Sunday of RLCS 2026.
